Idol vs. Billboard: The first night of voting!

First week of 12 . . . We get to vote, kids . . .

THIS is AMERICAN IDOL!

Chatter with the judges . . . yo.

Paula’s eyebrows are looking a little . . . um, angular.

Hits from the Billboard Top 100 . . . since the charts began.

1. Jackie Tohn is up first – What is she wearing in the interview? She is singing A Little Less Conversation by Elvis Presley . . . She’s got a VERY DIFFERENT voice than what the Idol audience is used to . . . she’s quirky. But I kind of like her . . . ain’t no way she’s making the Top 12 this week. I do think she’s got a shot at the Wild Card round. Here come the judges . . . Randy wasn’t sold on the vocals but liked the entertaining . . . Kara liked her stage presence . . . Paula ditto . . . Simon thought she played the clown.

2. Ricky Braddy - He is very quiet . . . he better have a great big vocal performance. He’s singing A Song For You by Leon Russell . . . I LOVE this song! WOW . . . That was just freakin amazing. I think he was stunning. Randy thinks the season has started. Kara loved him. Paula is proud. Simon thinks he has no star quality. He has an outside shot at that third spot this week. However, I think we could see him in the Wild Card. We’ll have to see how things go . . .

3. Alexis Grace - I don’t remember Kara telling her to go home and “make love to her fiancĂ©” . . . She’s singing Never Loved A Man by Aretha Franklin. This is a good performance, but I don’t think it is going to stand out . . and it is coming off a wee bit cabaret. But she’s got a strong voice. Randy thinks she worked it out and she “done found da dirt”. Kara thinks she released something inside. Paula is rambling a bit, but I think she liked her. Simon thinks that she is the best by a mile . . . I don’t know that I agree. . . um, he just compared her to Kelly Clarkson . . . um . . .

4. Brent Keith – a little live oops . . . “Roll the tape!” . . . He’s singing Hip Town . . . I don’t know this song. I wonder if they are not allowing them instruments in the Top 36 . . . seems like he would be playing the guitar. Uh oh . . . good voice, kind of boring. . . and he’s going a weeeeee bit flat in some parts of the song. Randy liked him. Kara and Paula think he didn’t take much of a risk. Simon blasphemes Bucky Covington and thinks he will have no impact.

5. Stevie Wright – She is singing You Belong With Me by Taylor Swift . . . way too low . . .way too low . . . she is already going home . . . not good. Y’all remember the hook from the gong show . . . I like her, but yikes. Randy thought it was not for him. Kara thought it was the wrong song. Paula agrees with the other two. And Simon is bout to rip her a new one . . . he thinks it was terrible. *** More importantly, we just got a sighting of the NPH – the Neal Patrick Harris, yo!***

6. Anoop Dogg - He has chosen . . . Angel of Mine by Monica . . . interesting choice . . . we’ll see. He sounds pretty good. He has a better voice than this song is showing . . . he has played it safe and it may cost him. I hate that because I think he definitely has one of the top 12 voices on the show. Randy thinks it was not the right song choice – kind of sharp. This is where I’m not a fan of this year’s voting. Kara agrees with Randy. Paula thinks that America has connected with him already. Simon thinks it was a little grown up for him and a bit serious. He may not get through with the voters but he is a LOCK for the wild card.

7. Casey Carlson – Cute little hat she has on in the interview . . . She’s singing Every Little Thing She Does is Magic by the Police . . . this is a song with a rough Idol history. And the roughness continues . . . do these people not watch the show?! Randy thinks that it was weirdly karaoke. Kara thinks that everything about it was wrong. Paula thinks that she is a package . . . but that the song didn’t work for her. Simon thinks the packaging was gone. Casey had fun. I hope she did because she is soooooo gone.

8. Michael Sarver – the oil rig dude . . . I heart him . . . He’s singing I Don’t Wanna Be by Gavin DeGraw . . . it’s an overdone Idol song . . . We’ll see . . . It’s a solid performance . . . not perfect but solid. It was a good song choice for him. I’m not sure if it will get him through. Randy thought it started out pitchy, he wasn’t sure. Kara didn’t think it was his performance. Paula thought he did a really good job, but that his performance was a bit awkward. Simon thinks it’s tricky and likes Michael. He thinks that the vocal was okay. I think the judges will put him into the wild card show.

9. Ann Marie Boskovich – Singing Natural Woman by Aretha Franklin – Yikes this better take an upturn soon cuz she’s gonna get some comparisons to Kelly Clarkson and it aint gonna be pretty. Her high notes are pretty good, and considering the seriously bad showing by the girls, she is pretty high on the list. Randy didn’t get it. Kara didn’t think she killed it. Paula thinks that she did better than her auditions. Simon thinks she might be the best hotel singer in California. She’s gone.

10. Stephen Fowler – I remember him forgetting the words in Hollywood and not being able to believe that he went through instead of Jamar . . . let’s see how he handles Rock With You by Michael Jackson . . . perfect song for his voice . . . he needs to pick it up . . . he’s behind the music. This is nowhere near as good as it should be. I had very high hopes for this performance. Randy thought it was weird. Kara wasn’t happy with it. Paula was disappointed. Simon wishes he had forgotten the lyrics. He’s gone . . . I just don’t know that they will give him a third chance.

11. Tatianna Del Toro – Here comes the drama queen. This girl drives me nuts, but if she calms down I think she can go through tonight. She is singing Saving All My Love For You by Whitney . . .dangerous, but she could do it justice. Strangely, I think she pulled it off. It wasn’t a complete performance, but the fact that she is at the end and hit some high notes . . . I think she may get through. Randy thought she hit some good notes. Kara isn’t sure where she fits. Paula thinks she is the most talked about contestant . . . she thought it was good but a bit inconsistent. Simon thinks she is a drama queen and desperate to be famous.

12. Danny – I heart him . . . let’s see how he does amongst a group of boys who have been very, very good this week. He is singing Hero by Mariah Carey. I think this could potentially be brilliant . . . Wow . . . just wow. He is SUCH MY BITCH. I love him. Oh look, and there’s Jamar! Randy, Paula, and Kara thought he blew it out. Simon thought he was good. I HEART DANNY! He saved the show and will definitely be going through.

Well, we come to the end of the first voting night. I think we have a definite male winner in Danny. I think our female winner is going to be a mixed bag between, ugh, Tatianna, Alexis and Jackie . . . and I think Anoop is in there for the possible third place spot. I’m going to post again with rankings and predictions, but my early thoughts are Danny, Tatianna, and Anoop.

How have we done on our predictions thus far?

Here's just a little of what I said:

Jasmine Bird - another prety girl - finally a good voice, a bit overdone with the inflections, but some potential here. (GOT THIS ONE RIGHT)

Ann Marie redeux - Good. Don't know she has enough depth. (WRONG - She's in the too 36)
Joanna Pesini(?)...pretty girl...good....not great....Paula says "worthy".....I'm not so sure. I don't see the star potential there. (WRONG - Made it to the top 36- but is now out)
Brent Keith ....decent...some potential....but not so sure he can make it...Simon said "busterous"....I kinda agree. I don't see him going too far despite the cute dimples. (WRONG - Top 36)
Dueling piano guy...Matt Giraud - I would say no....too Nasaly....no potential here....Kara and Paula like him....even Simon says he has a good voice. Even Randy says yes.....what do they see in him....4 for 4....Simon says he's like Eliot Yamin....I say....ah.....no..... (WRONG - Top 36)

Alexis Grace.... good enough for hollywood...not sure if she's good enough beyond that... (WRONG - Top 36)
The first girl (giggly) aka Tatiani shouldn't have made it through either, look for her to have an early exit. (WRONG - Top 36 - but I still think personally I'm right here)

Adam Lambert...Simon said it best "theatrical"...I like him but then again Hello.....I think he will be in the top 24 or 36 or whatever it is these days. (RIGHT!!!)
Kai's up next.. ..heart touching story backed up by IZ...nice voice but weak on the runs. Did Simon say Sh*tsinger or Shipsinger? But the question is...who is going to take care of his mother while he is in Hollywood or on the show? (Correct - sort of)

Megan Corkrey - Strange voice....in some ways good...but other ways just weird...Judges say interesting..Simon says favorite auditions because she is different. Unanimous yes... (WRONG - sort of)

Taylor (Vaifauna) from Hurricane, Utah...Gateway to the Beautiful Southern Utah landscape...pretty voice, but not particularly strong (Wrong - top 36)

So far....I'm not doing so well......hmmmmmmm.

The first season 8 controversy - Pacitti out

American Idol just named its Top 36 Wednesday, but you won't get to vote for one of them.

Joanna Pacitti, who has been hotly debated on Idol fansites because of her former record deal with A&M Records, has been booted from the competition, according to a Fox press release. "It has been determined that Joanna Pacitti is ineligible to continue in the competition," the statement read. No further explanation was offered.

In addition to chatter about Pacitti's previous recording career, the singer has also been rumored to have a close relationship with some of the executives of 19 Entertainment, the company that produces Idol.

In Pacitti's place will be Felicia Barton, who was seen being eliminated Wednesday. She wasn't heavily featured on the show, but her rendition of "Put Your Records On" during the Louisville, KY, audition round did create some buzz among fans.

What do you think of this twist?

The top 36 - where are they from

Its interesting looking at the map of the homes of the top 36. Surprisingly not many from the South this year (Could it be because of the location of the auditions).
The south has been the base of so many of the contestants, but very few here.

What doesn't bode particularly well for the drama of this year is the vast number of contestants in Southern California....(I've never seen this map before, so maybe it was like this in years past)...however, who cannot forget the lackluster homecoming for Katherine McPhee. I love watching the small"er" town homecomings.....they are much more fun watching the communities get behind their hometown favorites.

Is AI looking for another Taylor Hicks?

It appears…and I’m afraid that AI might be looking for another Taylor Hicks and his name is Norman…or Normound.

Seriously how this guy made it to Hollywood is beyond me and now he’s in the top 36? Its obvious that he is being kept on only for dramatic effect. However, if the show is supposed to find the best “Singers” there is NO justification for Jamar getting cut and Norman making it through. I think ultimately AI gets it right, however…there is something strange going on this year.

Last nights show – the pros and cons. Singoffs? Good….added to the drama and it was brutally enjoyable watching people sing for their “lives”. Judge’s mansion?

Cut….Cheesy and cheapened the show (Not to mention the poor taste of the decorator of the place).

Anoop is the first one through. Deserves to be in the top 36. I would like to see him in the top 12 but I have my doubts.

Von Smith – comes from a “singing family”. Comments about listening to his family make decisions for him brings back bad memories of Mr Archuletta from last season.

He’s through. Top 36 – probably not top 12.

Then the first sing-0ff…Cody v. Alex. Judges get this one wrong. Cody gets cut. Its schaudenfreude watching Alex want to celebrate but can’t because of Cody’s pain…voyeuristic pornography.

Next up – Adam Lambert – shoo in for top 5 (unless major disaster along the way).

Another singoff between Kristen and Jenn (Simon characterizes it as the pretty one against the other – actually Kristen is prettier than Jenn)…both should be cut based on the singoff. Judges get it right though in the choice. For once Simon is wrong – Kristen makes it through.

Alexis and Lil rounds make it through.

Danny and Jamar. I originally liked Jamar better, but he has not done that well as Danny has risen. Danny has a good voice. Probably good enough to make the top 12…helped by his AI sad story. I have to admit, it was sad to see Jamar have to face Danny after not getting through. My only thought though was…AI completely played up this “bond” and Danny does NOTHING to console Jamar…he just stands there. Maybe it was shock or discomfort, but I couldn’t believe that Danny didn’t immediately embrace Jamar if this “Bond” was so strong.

However, if this injustice is not enough, we are soon SHOCKED by the notion that Norman gets through. I’m having visions of Taylor Hicks all over again…that is…are there actually people who are going to vote for this guy….but then I think, he’s a shoo-in for “Vote for the worst” and hey….Vote for the worst got Taylor Hicks the crown so there you go. (Although I’m thinking to myself – is this show becoming a joke?----nah……they’ll get it right eventually).

AI redeems itself as Kai, Jorge and Stephen Fowler make it through. But then…..the ultimate breaking point….Tatiana. I’m hoping….no PRAYING that she gets cut. I can’t stand another week of her. I’m still praying (but I know down-deep she is going through…..c’mon…..its all about ratings….RATINGS….and people enjoy being annoyed by her.) She makes it through…and guess what…you are going to hear it here from me first….Tatiana in the top 12….(gulp).

Anyway…we have our top 36. I have to say it looks like a good group. The show is hitting on all cylinders…best season ever?

Predictions (although I don’t know much about some of them so far) Top 12?

Adam – Absolutely no question

Alex,- N Alexis -Y, Allison-?, Anne-?, Anoop- I’m going to say no…but I’m hoping, Arianna-?, Brent-N, Casey-?, Danny-Y, Felicia-?, Jackie-?, Jasmine- YES, Jeanine-?, Jesse-?, Jorge- N, Ju’not-, Kai- I’m going to say N…but I really like him…I’m hoping., Kendall-?, Kris-?, Kristen – NO! Lil Rounds- YES, Matt B-? (
Shouldn’t but mid-America may put him through, Matt G-Y, Megan-Y, Michael- (Shouldn’t –[see Matt B.], Mishovonna-?, Nathaniel (Facepierce boy/drama queen – NO…although after seeing his story last night I was glad to see him make it this far…you can tell this kid was unfairly picked on all throughout school…congrats to him), Nick/Norman-I’m going to say NO….please NO…..but with all the weird stuff going on with the show/judges this year and the Taylor Hicks voting crowd…he just might make it…I doubt it though, Ricky-?, Scott- Y (Ok…I’m going to say it and talk about the pink elephant in the room…yes…he has a decent voice, but he’s going to get a lot of sympathy votes that are going to propel him in this competition….and maybe to the title….should he be in the top 12? Probably…but not much more than that), Stephen – probably a no, but I’m hoping, Stevie-?, Tatiana- Yes…unfortunately she will be in the top 12…there is no justice here, Taylor-Y, Von Smith -Y.

OK….that’s it for now. Sorry for the extra long post…they wont all be like this. I’m anxious to hear all of your thoughts!!!!

Rubbertoe…..OUT!!!!!

Let's take it down to the Top 36!

It is the FINAL JUDGEMENT at the JUDGES MANSION!
THIS is American Idol
Each contestant goes from the holding room and down the path . . . did they impress the judges. Have they made it to the Top 36.
Anuk – Unanimously . . . .YES! He’s through to the Top 36 . . . not sure about Top 12
Von Smith – He’s THROUGH! I think he has a beautiful voice . . . if he can tone it down . . .
Break . . .
Cody Sheldon – They want him to sing one more time . . . he could me the new pretty boy . . . Simon wants a few minutes . . . Here comes Alex . . . Wonder twin powers activate, form of 2 singing gay boys!
I think Alex’s voice is better, but is it good enough to overcome the fact that Cody looks more like an Idol . . . Moment of truth = Cody goes home, and Alex gets through. They are very upset . . . awkward.
Adam Lambert – I heart him . . . sooooooo much cuteness . . . . Don’t play with me judges, he needs to go through . . . HOORAY! The Judges Got It Right!
Break!
And we’re back . . .
Taylor – 17 year s old – she forgot the words in the group session, but the last performance was awesome . . . She needs to go through . .. AND SHE DOES
Jasmine Murray – Through!
Arianna – Through!
Casey – Through!
Megan – Through!
Mishavonna – Through! I love her!
Stevie Wright – Through!
We must be heading for some bad stuff after the break . . . too much good!
No break . . . sorry!
Joanna – she forgot the words to EVERYTHING – she should not go through – I cannot believe they let her through. I’m stunned. You just know that there’s gonna be somebody else they eliminate (see Josiah from Season 7) who I’m gonna be pissed about.
T.K. – Is not through
Reggi Beasley – Not through . . . I hate that . . .
Kendall – She’s shakey, but through! I’m glad, I kind of like this one.
Jen – the married couple girl – he went home – judges aren’t certain, and want her to sing again – Kristin is outside getting ready to sing against her . . . I kind of think they will both go through . . . Kristin has made it through, and Jen did not. I am completely disagreeing with that decision. UGH!
Alexis Grace – She is NEVER gonna win this competition. . . but she’s through to the Top 36.
Scott McIntyre – I heart him hardcore . . . He’s Through! As he should be. I actually think that vocally he is not as good as others, but he’s AMAZING with the instrument.
Lil Rounds - I kind of heart her . . . I hope she gets through . . . Hooray! She’s through! I’m so glad . . . I really see her as a little Latoya London circa season 3. I think she could go very far.
Break!
Felicia – Not a unanimous decision – Did not make it
Ashley – Didn’t make it
Devon Baldwin – Didn’t make it through
Frankie Jordan – “the stay at home mom” – she’s makin the walk . . . I have a feeling that she’s going to make it through . . . uh oh, another girl is going . . . Jessie Lancaster – It’s time to FACE OFF. Frankie has a voice that’s different . . . I kind of like it . . . but so does Jessie . . . The judges hated both songs . . . only one can go through . . . and its Jessie. Simon has to be an ass and say that Frankie didn’t have a chance to win. Ugh on Simon.
A Break!
Shera – Does not go through
Derik – Does not go through
Allison – the namesake of one of our bloggers! J She’s nervous . . . She’s going through to the next round . . . as she should. It was risky doing Kelly Clarkson, but she did a very nice rendition. She could go through to the Top 12.
Here comes the story of Danny and Jamar . . . I love them. I hope they both get through… Here comes Danny . . He HAS to go through. Hells Yeah! Holla! They got it right! I couldn’t separate them . . . here comes Jamar. OMFG! I cannot believe they didn’t send him through. OMFG! He should have gone through. UGH!
Ricky – Through!
Matt – Thru
Juneau – Thru!
Jorge – Thru!
Stephen Fowler - If he gets through and Jamar goes home . . . UGH! He went through, and Jamar did not! That is complete BullShit! Sorry for the expletive.
Here comes that Norman BS – I know Rubbertoe disagrees . . . but I think he’s got a good voice, but a horrible persona. They let him through! Wow . . . again I will say, they let him through, and Jamar went home . . . hmmmm
Break!
Here comes I didn’t get her name . . . Ugh . . . cool . . . Jackie – unanimous voice puts her THROUGH! I think she’s a dark horse for the Top 12.
And, ugh, here comes Tatianna and all of her drama . . . I hate that her voice is good, ugh. And she’s annoying again. Not unanimous . . . But, I’ll bet she is . . . YES. She’s going through. I hate her, but she has a good voice.
Here comes another match up. . . Gay boy Nathaniel and Maybe Straight Boy Jackie . . . Oh Lord, we have an IDOL moment with Nathaniel . . . Best line of the night . . . Simon, “What ARE you wearing?”. Forgetting what he’s wearing, I just wanna smile when he sings. Just so nice . . . I think both of their voices are great, but Nathaniel’s is better. Let’s see what happens . . . Nathaniel is through. And, despite the outfit, he should be. Good voice.
Here comes the final 2 . . . the welder and the oil rigger . . .
Well, not yet.
Jennine – She’s THROUGH!
Kai – He’s THROUGH!
Anne Marie – She’s THROUGH!
Chris – I HEART him. He’s THROUGH!
Now, here’s the final 2! The oil rigger and the welder. I HATE that they are the final 2 . . .they should both go through… Matt, the welder, is first. I heart him. He has to sing . . . and, he was so soulful and good. Here comes the oil rigger, Michael, . . . his voice makes me smile . . . He is brilliant, and just makes me smile. What’s going to happen. If they get it right, Michael the oil rigger will go through. THEY BOTH GO THROUGH! HOORAY! That’s awesome! I’m sooooo excited for them!We have our Top 36! And for the most part, minus Jamar, I think they got it right.

And FINALLY! ITS TIME TO VOTE!!!! What did y'all think?

Hollywood Week - Take Two

The most Shocking Idol Ever ----
Group night -forming cliches brings back all those horrible memories of trying to fit in...or being the last one picked in PE class.
The competition turns vicious and the bloodbath begins....after the break!
Tatiana - can I say...cutthroat bitch...her desperation was not cool and very unattractive. She needs to go.
Team "Compromise" is all drama. and Facepierce boy is just one big drama queen (and a really bad dresser too...he obviously didn't get the gene).
Rose and Bikini girl are at each other's throats.
They fought through the night, but will a new day be a fresh start?
Bikini girl allegedly gives up (as if)...doesn't want to get out of bed.
(She's a real skank....yes....I said it).
...and remember "Forget the words...and you're out"...

Up first - White Chocolate...india
(rapped)...., matt (nice), Kris (good voice) (Justin Williams - a little weak...the weakest of the four). Very Strong start...they all go through.

Austin - bad and cheesy...J.B. pretty good....Shelby sucked ....Julissa....bad
(boys go through...girls go home)...
Alex (weak), Ryan (good), Ann Marie, (Action Squad) Focus on cheesy coregoraphy
Emily (should make it through)......Alex/Ann Marie...step back....They pick the back row which sucked....the front two go home and they were better than the other two....I've said it before...but something is up with the judges this year.

Simons insults..."Succession of whores"....or did he say "horrors"
Danny - finally sounds pretty good...Jamar (very good)....Danny/Jamar really overpower the girls...I didn't even catch their names...Simon calls Danny up and sends him through....thinks he's being clever that they are going to send the other three home....no chance, we've seen that scenaio before.

Jeremy sarver - no....Adam Labert...excellent....Matt Breitke (a little longer..but not much). Andy Lambert is looking very very strong. They all make it through.

The Divas - Katrina, Rose, Lauren, Jasmine (Great voice - she should go through)
Rose was horrible. Lauren forward...Katrina forward...Rose forward...They go home. Jasmine stays...(finally) the judges got it right.

David Osmond...goes home...Austin...gone...
Muna Hiluf - off key, Tatiana ---not very good...and she keeps up her antics...cut her PLEASE!!!!!!they send them through....even though they SUCKED....Tatiana has to go...Can you say FAAAAAReak!.

Nathaniel - good energy and sounded good...Nancy Wilson - C minus....Kristin (actually...not too bad)... Nancy gets cut. Nathaniel and Kristen make it through.

The show is beginning to take shape.
I'm going to say it now - Adam (Andy) Lambert in the top 5.

Welcome to Hollywood

Ok....Scott had the laptop and I wasn't able to start blogging....so I don't have the names here.

The girl who sang Whitney...she was good...but no Whitney. Why do they choose those songs. The guy who Simon said was distracting my the faces he pulled....was distracting by the faces he pulled.
The next group all goes through...including face pierce boy.

Von Smith, Jorge Nunez, Stephen Fowler -
Stephen Fowler has a good quality to his voice. I like him a lot.
Jorge - another good voice. Not as strong as Stephen
Von Smith - What was that? It was horrible. Simon said - indulgent nonsense.
(I'm wondering...did I like him before?)
The three guys make it through...
Judges say bad song choice is doing people in (Isn't that Idol rule #1)?
Nick Mitchell -aka Norman....made it through as a joke - continues as a joke..problem is...he just isn't that funny. (Did Paula and Randy really say he has skills/talent)..how did he make it through again? Seriously....what is up
Scott McCentre and Stacey Jordan make it through.
Funny thing...they show them loading into vans at the Renaissance Hotel to the Kodak Theater which is actually only about 200 yards from the theater
Jackie Thon - Smokey voice - better than the rocker chick that was in the top 12 last year. She makes it through.
Danny and Jamar - Jamar (California Dreaming - sounded a little flat). Danny - Kissed by a rose -(not even in the same league as seal)....I don't see Danny making it too much further.
Katrina - Bikini Girl - missed her audition. Sings better than I expected. Randy/Simon liked her...Paula and new judge...not so much...but she makes it through.
Jesus Valenzuela - doesn't make it through...I'm not surprised.
Jeremy Sarver - They like him....me not so much.
David Osmond - he can sing. Ericka Wesley---not really. Emily (sings a song that she didn't rehearse)...sounds like she didn't rehearse. Emily survives...Ericka doesn't.
Alexis grace, Adam Labert...and some others go through...

Tonights show...whirlwind pace...I had a hard time keeping up. At least we get more than I Hollywood night this year.!!!!

Our Lives Would SUCK without Kelly!

Hey Y'all!

I've checked out of the blog the last two weeks due to major, impending deadlines. UGH! I've got to go back and watch the last 2 weeks of auditions. UGH! Anyway, I couldn't let this one past. Many major media outlets are reporting that our ORIGINAL AMERICAN IDOL BITCHES . . Ms. Kelly Clarkson has now broken the record for fastest rising single. The lead single off of her forthcoming album "All I Ever Wanted", My Life Would Such Without You, has moved to number 1 more quickly than any other song in Billboard history! Hooray! Personally, I LOVE this song, and have it on repeat on my IPod. In case you haven't seen the video, I am posting it below. Way to go Kelly!

By the way, embedding in youtube was disabled so click this link to watch the video!

NYC and Puerto Rico

The final night of AI auditions....then on to Hollywood!!!!!!
NYC and Puerto Rico. I'm hoping to see some Red Hot Ricans tonight (oh wait...that a DVD...I think).
Adeola...gave up her job to come to audition...I bet she is going to be bad....I'm right. This show is getting a little predictable this year.
Jorge Nunez - Cute guy...a little strange...beautiful voice...finally someone who is worthy to go through. (was that his boyfriend waiting for him....I think yes).
Jessika Baier - Simon said Awful - I thought she was pretty good. Better than many that went through...the trend continues.
Melinda Camille - Loves to dance naked...hmmmmmm...a life philosophy we should all embrace...excellent voice./\...and if it doesn't work out in Hollywood, she can always dance naked on the Sunset Strip.
Jackie Thon - energetic...but voice is not there. Does better on the second song..much better. ...Windows Collapse...and Jackie goes to Hollywood.
Joel Contreras - The guy-pod..no no no....
Nick Mitchell - not all that funny....and they send him to Hollywood...now this show is becoming a joke.
Kenny Hoffpauer....one to watch
kendall - another one to watch in Hollywood
Monique and her 9 year old brother - cute kid. Good voice...enough for Hollywood but wont make it into the top 36...almost didn't make it to Hollywood...Simon sent her through.
Alwxis Cohen - I thought she looked familiar - strange girl...but funny and entertaining in an idol kinda way. Maybe I can find her on Facebook!
Patricia Roman - Pretty girl with a good strong voice. I can see her in the top 36.
Simon said not good enough (What is up with these judges??????) they give her an extra 30 second chance. Paul says no..Randy says yes...she makes it through. I'm confused...I seriously have no idea what is up with the judges and what they are looking for.
I can tell you one thing...I'm glad the auditions are over...lets get on with the show!!!!
Next up - Hell's Kitchen

American Idol in S.L.UT.

American Idol in the City by a dead lake...or is it dead city by a lake....oh, I don't remember.....its Salt Lake City, Utah....my hometown!!!!
Have you ever seen so many white people in one spot?
David Osmond - with the patented Osmond perfect teeth...sad story of MS...cute guy...definitely a good voice...but needs to tone it down a lot!
Tara Mathews - the claim "the only goth"...hardly...SLC has always had a very large underground culture despite the stereotype image. Sings a song "Ill fly away" from one of my favorite movies...beautiful song sung horribly!!!!
Chris Kirkham w/ greg the rabbit. Why is this young guy hanging out with this old guy? hmmmmmm a little strange. He's got a good voice...but they never really give him a chance to sing. What was up with that? Especially after some of the people they have put through.
Montage of all the "happy" people. SLC is actually a very friendly place...
Frankie Jordan - from my new hometown - Hollywood. Either way...she is going to Hollywood!!!! They say YES - Relax... "Frankie goes to Hollywood"
Megan Corkrey - Strange voice....in some ways good...but other ways just weird...Judges say interesting..Simon says favorite auditions because she is different. Unanimous yes...
Commercial - Sneak Peek at Kelly's new CD...all I can say is WOW....Kelly is definitely BACK!!!
Austin Sisneros - Senior Class President - OK voice..not particularly strong. Poor song choice...maybe there is something there but I doubt it.
Taylor from Hurricane, Utah...Gateway to the Beautiful Southern Utah landscape...pretty voice, but not particularly storng.
Rose from Idaho - heartwarming story about losing her parents...as only American Idol can do without being overly cheesy. Liked the personality...but voice is probably not going to get her much further than Hollywood. My only fear is that she will end up one of the countless Homeless in Hollywood. Seriously...would you go back to Idaho? Sorry....just being honest (as Simon would say).....

Former Idols: Where are they now?

Hey Gang,

the link above takes you to an interesting article on EW online about a few of our former faves on Idol, like Michael Johns, Brooke White, etc., and a few former Idols more famous for inducing a "WTF" moment during the season.

Randy Jacksonville

Jacksonville:
Justin Guiarini - Joshue Ulloa - Great Blues voice, but don't know if he can do much more than the gimmick of this audition. Nice Personality. Simon says good but Gimmicky and Corny. 4 yeses...
Sharon Wilbur w/Dog Sascha - Pretty girl - Weak voice. She actually thinks she can sing. Simon and Randy say yes (you gotta be kidding me)...Paula says yes. (This show is beginning to lose credibility - what is going on???)
Kaneswa - confident..and yes nasaly and horrendous. Not sure a single note was on key. Nice girl though.
Haven't seen much I like so far.
The woman with the sash that sang Whitney (Julissa)....should never have made it through....are they that desperate this year. Bigger question - was she a girl or a drag queen. I'm seriously not sure.
Darin Darnell....seems like a nice guy but singing was painful.
Naomi Sykes - pretty girl...worse than Darin...she didn't think it was a joke? Puh-lease....we've seen this scenario played out too many times....I ain't buying it this time.
Simon says first day they were terrible - once again Simon is right.
Jasmine Bird - another prety girl - finally a good voice, a bit overdone with the inflections, but some potential here.
George Ramirez - 18, looks 43. Really Really bad. This guy can't be serious.
What a boring boring guy.
Ann Marie Boscovitz yet another pretty girl - They tell her to come back as a different person, herself.
TK - Cute guy. Auditioned before, didn't make it through. Good enough for Hollywood, but may have difficulties in Hollywood Week. Simon says NO...the others say yes.
Commercial Break - Same old AT&T commercial from the last two years (guy taking pictures with his daughter's stuffed animal.) It was cute the first 2000 times, its stale and old...you would think with the money they pay for these slots, AT&T would come up with something new.
Back to the show:
Guitarboy (Michael)...couldn't play guitar in the audition...meltdown. I thought he sounded pretty good. Simon said he would struggle. They all said no...they have put through people who were far worse. What is up with the judges this year?
Ann Marie redeux - Good. Don't know she has enough depth. They send her to Hollywood!!!
Only 16 people from Jacksonville make it through.

Louisville Kentucky Auditions

11,000 contestants in the bluegrass state
Tiffany Shed - looks like a disaster...needs an eyeshadow coach...an a voice one as well.
Joanna Pesini(?)...pretty girl...good....not great....Paula says "worthy".....I'm not so sure. I don't see the star potential there.
Church hill downs looks like a beautiful place.

Next up...some guy named Mudd...just another idol freak...not bad but kinda scary in a "deliverance" kinda way.... Next up:
Brent keith Smith.....decent...some potential....but not so sure he can make it...Simon said "busterous"....I kinda agree. I don't see him going too far despite the cute dimples.
Next up Chinese character nerdy guy....he drank through Paula's straw...she looks completely grossed out...I would too.
10 made it through the first day....so far I haven't seen the next AI
Whoooo hooo.....Hell's kitchen Jan 29.....its not usually on til June.....Rubbertoe is loving life!!!!!!!!!
Alexis Grace.... good enough for hollywood...not sure if she's good enough beyond that...
Commercial....they have this McDonald's Iced Kona Macadamia nut coffee here that sounds incredible....I just never go to McDonalds in Hawaii.....but I just might have to.....
Aaron Williamson...whooooooooo! Great energy...just not such a great voice...but he sang one of my favorites: CCR "Have you ever seen the rain".......
Rebecca Garcia....just another idol joke.......notes on arm......just a big joke.....Rebeccan says no....she is just acting......
Kris all...felicia barton.....ryan johnson.....all sound good
Lenecia and her struggle through poverty....does she have the talent to turn her life around? After the break: Does her mom have 8-10 kids? You have to be kidding me.......man I already feel sorry for this girl......OK......a little one note wonder.....don't see much here.

Haven't seen the next AI yet.....still looking....we'll see......
Still a long way to go.....
Next week...Rubbertoe.....GOING TO HOLLYWOOD!!!!!...but that's just back home for me......Rubbertoe....OUT!!!!!!!!

San Francisco Auditions

Rubbertoe coming to you live from the north shore of Kauai.....I'm finally somewhere with a TV and finally able to see Idol...missed the first 2 shows.

So far...I don't know what to think of the new judge, maybe she'll grow on me.

The contestants: Jesus should not have made it through. Yes...cute boys and the family man story was nice, but he didn't sing all that well. (especially unchained melody - Simon's favorite song).
The guy with the ugly coat actually had a pretty good voice if he would have toned it down, he was way way WAY too over the top.
The first girl (giggly) shouldn't have made it through either, look for her to have an early exit.
Acquilla made me extremely nervous and agitated...even though she had a little bit of a Macy Gray sound to her voice...
Adam Lambert...Simon said it best "theatrical"...I like him but then again Hello.....I think he will be in the top 24 or 36 or whatever it is these days.
Kai's up next..wondering if he will be really good or really bad...commercial break...heart touching story backed up by IZ...nice voice but weak on the runs. Did Simon say Sh*tsinger or Shipsinger? But the question is...who is going to take care of his mother while he is in Hollywood or on the show?
We only get 1 hour?.....I feel cheated....but it is good to be back!!!
OK....long hike tomorrow....so its off to bed for rubbertoe.

Auditions - Night Two: Living It Up in KC

Welcome to night two of American Idol. Tonight, we are auditioning potential Idols in Kansas City, the home of our last Idol, David Cook. The following is a list of the folks who made it through and some initial thoughts of their auditions and sometimes their chances at success.

Ashley Anderson – Leona Lewis – despite the footsteps/footprints mess up – this girl has a very, very good voice.

Casey Carlson – Vanessa Carlton’s “A Thousand Miles” – Wonderfully fresh performance

Von Smith - Somewhere Over The Rainbow – BRILLS! If he can tone it down a touch he definitely has the pipes to stick around for a long while.

Michael Castro - the brother of The Cuteness . . . Gavin DeGraw “I’m in love with the girl” Kara called him ballsy . . . I call him the Cuteness II . . . nice voice. He'll be around for a while.

Matt B. – Welder - Aint no sunshine. Another big boy with an unexpected voice. I think he is iffy to make it through Hollywood.

Jessica Verne – Cry Baby Janice Joplin - Nice tone to her voice. I think she could be around for a while.

India/Asia – The look nothing alike sisters. They were very sweet and supportive of each other, but I'm not sure that India should have made it through. I don't think she'll be around for very long.

Jamar Rogers – Screamed but good solid chops. His problem might be adjusting his voice to a bunch of different styles of music.

Daniel Gokey - This is the performance Idol has been building up to all night long. They have seriously pimped this one out. And . . . . it was very much worth it. Daniel's wife died four weeks before auditions. His story is great, and is voice is beautiful. I think Mr. Gokey could be headed to the Top 12.

Anoop Desai - AKA "Anoop Dogg" - This guy has a bit of a Clay Aiken vibe to him. I'll be curious to see what he's like after a good makeover.

Andrew Lang - My Girl – Big Ole voice from a little bitty body – the introductory cheerleaders may have done him in . . . the said no to him . . . which makes it all the more confusing as to why the saidy yes to . . . .Dennis - did they seriously just let this guy through and reject Andrew????

Asa – Band leader – Another sweet story, and they let him through on his rendition of Michael Jackson's "The Way You Make Me Feel" . . . I felt . . . underwhelmed.

Lil – Great Voice – I didn't quite get the other part of her name. She was the last performer of the night. And they seriously saved one of the best for last. They compared her to Fantasia and Mary J Blige . . . I would compare her to Season 3's best singer, Latoya London. I think this girl is a contender.

I know the review came a little late, but what did y'all think???

My "ones to watch" from Arizona

Look out for Scott McIntyre. He has got a great story and once he is in front of the piano, I think he will be a lock to make it to the Top 36. (That sounds wierd, but no Top 24 this year.)

I also think that Michael S. could be tough in Hollywood. He has got a different look and a solid voice.

I love the 16 year old guy who talked about how much the Idol experience could help his family. Josh -- What was his name?

Emily - the first girl with the funky hair - is great. I think she will be in the Top36.

Girl Stevie also sang really well and has a unique look. I expect to see a lot of her in Hollywood Week with a real chance to make it to Top 36.

Bikini girl. Seriously. I will give the girl a lot of credit because she made it to Hollywood, but I think that Hollywood will be the end of the road for her.

I know there were several others with great voices, but these are the folks who stood out to me. Looking forward to more from all of the singers who made it to Hollywood!

Good start to Idol! Welcome back readers and posters! Hope to hear from K and L soon. Rubbertoe is on vaction, lucky guy!

IDOL RETURNS!

Hey Y'all! Idol is back! And all I can say is, "Finally!". I forget how much I miss it until it is back. I am so thankful they only run the show once a year, otherwise, I might get burned out.

So, overall, I have to say, the first episode of the new season wowwed me! We are finally back to showing an equal number of good and bad auditions. I must say, that new judge, Kara Diogaurdi, hit it out of the park. I was a little worried about how she would fit in to the established idol mix. I need not have worried . . . . the transition was seemless.

I'm going to forego the complete wrap up, and only concentrate on the legitimate contenders.

1. Emily Hughes - Oooooooooh Barracuda! Wow! This girl has the unique look and the amazing voice to match! Hooray for Emily!

2. J D Ahfu - Absolutely beautiful voice. Probably won't translate to all of the different genres of the Idol Top 12, but, nevertheless, an amazing voice. Kind of reminds me of AJ Gill from Season One.

3. Arianna - 16 year old with a great voice and a better heart. She had a nice soulful edge to her voice.

4. Stevie Wright - The girl named after Stevie Nicks presented herself very well. She's got a nice soulful edge to her voice, and a precious "grandfriend" program to boot.

5. Michael Sarver - Big, hulking guy with a sweet soft voice. Very, very nice.

6. Bikini Girl - You just knew that Paula and Kara were going to hate this girl. The reality was that she didn't really need the bikini. Not the best voice in the whole world, but good enough to get her through without the gimmick. It cracked me up that she showed Kara attitude, and that Kara felt the need to sing, not once but twice.

7. Brianna - I only have "yes" written next to her name, otherwise, I have nothing. Does not bode well that I could not really remember her.

8. Deanna Brown - Aside from the aforementioned Emily, this girl was the only other person to really stand out for me. She's got something about her that I think could go far in this competition - not necessarily win - but go far. Nice soul to her voice.

9. Dork boy - I could not remember his name, but the unique and in tune tone to his voice sold me. Anyone can get a makeover, I hope he sticks around for a bit.

10. Scott McIntyre - What a great story. I worried that they were going to send someone through only because of his (dis) ability. However, the boy has got a very nice tone to his voice. I have a feeling that if he gets through the Hollywood round, and gets a chance to sit at his piano, he could be a threat.

I look forward to hearing about the talent in Kansas City.

What did y'all think of the return of Idol?!

Changes to the Idol Format

http://tv.yahoo.com/blog/when-idol-becomes-idle--77

Some rumored changes to the idol format.

Personally I believe that extending Hollywood week back to two weeks and showing less train wrecks are welcome changes.

Shortening the results show to 30 minutes? Bad Bad Bad....I don't get enough idol as it is (even with Idol Tonight on TVGuide Channel)....don't shorten one of the nights.

As for less Theme Nights.....that's questionable. I was really hoping for Englebert Humpdink night this year.

A Sneak Peek at Season 8

USA Today has posted a story about Season 8 of American Idol. The very informative piece includes information about "format tweaks", and the predictions about this year's ratings. Of note, is the re-formatting of the "Top 24" weeks. It appears that this season, we will have a "Top 36", and each week the top male, top female, and next highest vote getter will move through to the "Top 12". At the end of three weeks, nine performers will have moved through, and we will be treated to a wild card show where the judges will pick the final three performers to move through to the finals. Which means that there will not necessarily be 6 guys and 6 girls in the Top 12. I kind of like this tweaking to the format. What do y'all think?

Little David v. Rocker David - the CD's

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3ZZ3-T7nAPU

OK....I have to say that I think Lil' David's CD is far superior to Rocker David's. Although Rocker David's is a decent CD, there really isn't much that is outstanding on it. I think the best track is "Declaration". Little David hit a good one with "crush" and here is the next single "A little too not over you".

Kelly Clarkson Is Back!

Ms. Clarkson is back with the first single off her upcoming, as yet titled, fourth album. Her new single, "My Life Would Suck Without You" drops January 19th, 2009. As yet, no date has been posted for the full album. Early word on the CD is that Kelly is returning to the sound of "Breakaway" that catapulted her to international success. So, what do y'all think of the artwork for the single?

Blake Lewis Rips Idol A New One

The Daily News out of Philadelphia has written a story about American Idol VI runner up, Blake Lewis. Blake was performing a show in the city of brotherly love to promote his album, "Audio DayDream". What resulted was a very frank, slightly tell-sort of all, interview about his American Idol experience. Lewis sounds off about his treatment by the show, the executives, and Sanjya Malakar. Take some time to read this one folks, it's a humdinger of an interview. Click the link to check it out.

David Cook "Sizzles"

Entertainment Weekly has listed David Cook's debut single, "Light On" as one of the songs that "sizzles" for the fall. Although they did not list an official review of the song, I think being one of the songs that sizzles for the fall is quite a hefty recommendation. Below is the youtube clip of the song, click it to check it out for yourself.

New York Starting A War of Words With J-Hud

Reality TV World is reporting that Tiffany Pollard, aka Ms. New York, from the VH1 reality series, "I Love New York" and "New York Goes to Hollywood" is lashing out with American Idol alum and academy award winner, Jennifer Hudson. It seems that J-Hud is not engaged to David Otunga . . . who just happened to be one of the finalists for Ms. New York's heart on "I Love New York 2". . . . he was referred to as "Punk". La Hudson and Punk have been dating for less than one year, but a few weeks back, they announced their engagement. It seems that Ms. New York is none to happy with "Punk", and think he is just trying to be "Mr. Jennifer Hudson" and that he will just play "Al Reynolds to her Starr Jones". Jordin Sparks Rips Russell Brand On The VMA's

Our little American Idol 6 Champion, Jordin Sparks, had quite the sharp tongue when addressing the audience at this year's MTV Video Music Awards. All evening, the show's host, British comedian Russell Brand, had been making light of the Jonas Brothers' choice to wear purity rings as a symbol of their choice to remain virgins until marriage. . . . Does anyone remember Justin Timberlake and Britney Spears' similar promise . . . er, um . . . anyway . . . When La Sparks appeared on stage to announce an award, she grabbed the microphone and said, "I have just one thing to say about promise rings . . . its not bad to wear promise rings . . . not everyone - guy or girl - wants to be a slut". Whether I agree or disagree, I have to say that our little Jordin has much more hutzpah than I ever gave her credit for . . . click the link to read the entire article.

Is Republican VP Pick Palin An American Idol?

A very interesting article surfaced today in my email box. Roger Ebert, for some reason, was interviewed about Republican VP Nominee, Sarah Palin, and he used American Idol to explain her popularity. Ebert says that it's easy to explain Palin's popularity . . . she's like an American Idol contestant. Explanation = American Idol contestants are attractive, likable, and inspire Americans to think that "hey, that could be me up there". Very interesting article . . . Click the link to check it out.

Archuleta: I'm Afraid To Disuss Romance

Yahoo News is reporting that David Archuleta is upset. Apparently, our little David had a "romantic interest" during the American Idol 7 season, and apparently she received some interesting mail. Who knows how "they" got her address, but anyway. Apparently, Lil David's lil girlfriend got letters telling her that she was "not good enough" and "ugly". Yikes! Click the link to read the story.

Paula's "Straight Up" Take on Kara, Is She "Forever Her Girl" ?: A Report From Perez

Sorry about the title, y'all, I just couldn't help myself.

Perez Hilton is reporting that he has had an exclusive conversation with Paula Abdul about her reaction to the addition of fourth judge, Kara DioGuardi. Paula reports that she has known Kara for "years". In fact, Paula says she met Kara in Brooklyn, New York years ago. AND that she convinced Kara to give up her job at Billboard magazine and move to LA to "pursue her dream". Further, Paula says that Kara lived with her for a little while when she came to LA. Finally, Paula stated that she had been mentioning Kara's name to Idol producers long before this decision was made.

Do we believe La Abdul and her sweet, loveydovey, response to Kara's addition to the judge's panel? Read the story to decide for yourself.

American Idol Shake Up: Idol Adds A Fourth Judge!

Entertainment Weekly is reporting that we've got a shake up going on at American Idol. It looks like the eighth cycle of American Idol is going to feature a fourth judge. The fourth judge will be on the panel from start to finish. In the words of EW, this looks like "the biggest format change in American Idol history". Kara DioGuardi, a singer songwriter who has written for several American Idol alums including Kelly Clarklson, Carrie Underwood, Katharine McPhee, Taylor Hicks, Clay Aiken, Bo Bice, David Cook, and David Archuleta, has been tapped to be the fourth judge on the panel. Along with all of the aforementioned Idol alums, DioGuardi has worked with the likes of Avril Lavigne, Britney Spears, Christiana Aguilera and Jewel.

I wonder how the addition of the fourth judge will play with the audience . . . How will it play with the other three judges? I kind of think that the addition of a fourth judge is a double edged sword . . . I think the addition of a songwriter could REALLY increase the street cred of the show . . . on the other hand, as EW mentions, the addition of a fourth judge could cut into an already short performance time . . .

What do y'all think?

Archuleta Crushes the Competition

TV Guide is reporting that David Archuleta is blowing up the charts with his new single, "Crush". Billboard is reporting that Archuleta has debuted at #2 on the Hot 100 singles chart. This chart compiles both sales and airplay numbers to devleop rankings for singles. It is the tied for the highest ranking non-Idol related single for any former Idol contestant . . . of course, the other is by the ORIGINAL AMERICAN IDOL (not that I'm biased) Kelly Clarkson who hit #2 with her megahit "Since You've Been Gone".

All of us here at A Little Taste of Idol would love to give a huge shout out to our "Lil Boo". Congrats!

Elvis and Carrie Underwood Unite for a Not So Blue Christmas

Pantagraph has released a story regarding an upcoming Christmas album that will mirror the Frank Sinatra "Duets" CD from years ago. Carrie Underwood, Martina McBride, and LeAnn Rimes are among those who will be featured on the CD. Click the link to read the story.

Archuleta Gets Personal With BC Music

With the release of David Archuleta's new single, "Crush", comes the usual onslaught of one on one interviews. BC Music has released its interview which was conducted just prior to a stop on the Idol tour. Highlights include: "Imagine" and "Don't Let The Sun Go Down On Me" being two of David's favorite performances, and his comments about recording his upcoming album. This one is kind of lengthy . . . so, all you Archuleta fans, enjoy! Click the link to read the story.

Simon Cowell and Money: "I Have No Conscience"

Reality TV World is reporting that Simon Cowell has "no conscience when it comes to spending". The story reports that Cowell pulls in around 65 Million dollars per year in his various entertainment pursuits . . . with 47 Million coming from American Idol. One of the highlights from the story that just cracked me up was that Cowell "doesn't think twice" about spending around two thousand dollars on t-shirts alone. You would think with spending that much money on t-shirts, he could move away from the black and grey, er, um . . . let's just say "fitted" t's. Click the link to read the story.

American Idol Rewind

TV Week is reporting that American Idol Rewind is getting an upgrade. A new production company has taken over the reigns, and is expanding it's reach. Idol Rewind was the top rated cable viewed syndicated show in both of its first two seasons. It rated an average of 1.8 in the ratings . . . the equivalent of about 2 million viewers. In comparison, it is getting about the same rating as "Gossip Girl" the uber popular show on the CW. For season three, the show will focus on both Idol 3 and Idol 4. It will still deliver the performances that led contestants to sink or swim, but will also follow some of the contestants on their post-Idol journeys. Click the link to read the whole story.

David Archuleta Has A "Crush"

Oopsy . . . apparently I did not, as I previously posted, put the link to David Archuleta's single, "Crush" on the blog. I am posting it below. FYI: everyone from entertainment weekly to Billboard has given this single RAVE reviews. Check it out and let me know what you think.

Lil David Is Gonna Be A Star!

Our own little Idol Runner Up has released his first single, "Crush" from his forthcoming album to be released this fall. I posted a link to the song a while back. Well, another blog, "ChartRigger" is reporting that Lil Boo's single is NUMBER 1 on Itunes downloads and is set to debut in the TOP 10 this week! Yay for Lil Boo!

To celebrate, I am posting a link to a performance that made me believe he could be relevant in today's music scene. Please enjoy Lil David with One Republic singing, "Apologize"

Chris Sligh Discusses His Album and Tour

Y'all remember Chris Sligh from American Idol 6. He started with a bang and kind of went out with a whimper. He finished season 6 in the 10th position, and got to perform on the Idol Tour. BTW, Allison and I saw that tour, and sometime, we'll have to write a post about it . . . so freakin good . . . just me, Allison, and 5000 of our closest 10 year old friends! :)

Anyhoo, NewsOK has put out an interview with Chris Sligh . . . He discusses his Christain based album, his tour, and his time on American Idol. Click the link to read the story.

Ryan Seacrest . . . I just had to . . .

TMZ posted a blip of a story with the "modelling" photo of a 19 year old, Ryan Seacrest. Not much to the story, but mostly just a gratuitous shot of La Seacrest . . . doesn't do much to fan the flames of the "mo" rumors . . . Click the link to read the blip.

What do y'all think?

Nashville Star: A Pre-Finale Interview

A few minutes before the Nashville Star Finale, I was emailed an article posted in Reality TV World interviewing John Rich about the final three contestants. I'll post a link at the bottom where you all can read the whole article. Its very interesting to read John Rich's thoughts . . . it is very clear that La Rich is not fond of Shawn Mayer. He is VERY complimentary of both Gabe Garcia and Melissa Lawson . . . seeming to lean a wee bit more towards Lawson than Garcia . . . however, he stated that they are both talented and would be wonderful to work with . . . Then there are his remarks regarding La Mayer . . . Rich states that while he has seen a noticeable difference in Mayer's attitude and personality, he thinks that she is working with the same amount of talent now as she was at the beginning . . . "she has not gone from terrible to great". Really, really interesting article . . . Click the link to read the whole story.

American Idol 8 Auditions: A Bust In Puerto Rico?

TMZ is reporting that the latest effort by American Idol to expand it's search for America's next superstar has fallen flat. According to reports, the most recent auditions that were held in newly tapped for talent location, Puerto Rico were met with little interest. Only approximately "300" or so potential idol competitors showed up to audition for the most recent round of audtions. Don't fret Idol fans . . . TMZ also reports that this lack of interest is isolated and the other sites of auditions have produced the typical massive turnout of potential idols and potential worst of idol gag reel folks. Click the link to read the post.

Nigel Lythgoe Says Buh Bye to Idol?

TMZ is reporting that Nigel Lythgoe, Idol Machine Honcho, is exiting before the upcoming season. According to the report, Lythgoe is "bored" with the show and thinks that someone else would do a better job and pumping new life into the show. In addition, the possibly former Idol maven wants to spend his time and effort injecting energy into the continually surprising FOX summer hit, "So You Think You Can Dance". Click the link to read the story.
Wow! There is already an update on the above story. TMZ is reporting that Nigel Lythgoe has issued a statement that next season So You Think You Can Dance will be traveling internationally for its auditions, and therefore, he will "step back from his day to day" contact with American Idol. In addition, he will be involved with a new tv venture with Simon Fuller. Click the link to read the update.

I wonder if this shift in power, depending on who replaces him and assuming that this story is accurate, will have any noticeable affect on the quality of the show. Have no fear y'all, you know that we at A Little Taste of Idol will keep on top of things . . . Stay Tuned . . .

Nashville Star Finale Tonight!

Tonight, Nashville Star will crown the winner of it's Fifth Season. We are down to three contestants: 1) Melissa Lawson, 2) Gabe Garcia, and 3) Shawn Mayer . . . not that I've ranked these in any particular order . . . er, um . . . anyway . . .

NBC is reporting that they received a "record number of votes" for this final three telecast, and that voting was up "53%" from the previous week. A Side Note Here: I have found it so very sketchy from the beginning that NBC would not release the number of votes they were receiving each week. . . or any information about voting period . . . and, lets not forget that week of the final 6 when they were supposed to go from six to four and then strangely only eliminated one person . . . weird . . . Anyway . . .

Other highlights from tonight's telecast . . . The final three reunite with their eliminated reality family for several performances this evening . . . think Idol finale, cut in half, with a lower budget. Country legend George Jones will perform . . . The BRC will bust out his guitar, but hopefully not his mullet when he croons a tune from his latest CD, and finally, our winner will perform the song written by John Rich as the first single to hit radio tomorrow.

I really hope Nashville Star can pull off a decent finale. I haven't been thrilled with all of the contestants, but there are some good folks here, and I think if they do some major tweaking, they could make this show into something special . . . here's hoping

Archuleta Hits The Radio With "Crush"

Our Lil Boo is growing up, y'all!

David Archuleta's first single from his forthcoming album, dropped last Friday. The song, "Crush" is meant to provide advanced airplay leading up to the Fall '08 release of his first album.

When I first saw that Lil David had released this song, I so didn't want to listen to it. Strange, I know, because I do love Lil Boo. . . . I was just very nervous and did not want to be disappointed as I have in the past . . .However, I was quite impressed . . . as was the reviewer at Entertainment Weekly. Lil David has a distinctive voice, and there is no doubt that you are hearing the same Archie as we did on American Idol 7 . . . but, they have hooked him into a song that sounds contemporary, has a catchy hook, and fits very much into today's teen radio scene. . . If this song gets airplay, it will be a hit. Check out the song by clicking on the play button.
