Ok, as you can tell from the parenthetical ugh in the title, I'm not the biggest fan of inspirational week. . . . That's not to say that an amazing performance of a Whitney or Celine Olympic Theme can't reduce me to a puddle of mushy goo . . . it can. I'm a big cheese ball. However, more often than not, we get subpar perofrmances that leave me wishing for Michael Johns to be singing blues to me . . . er,um, sorry. They just leave me wanting more. Anyway, that being said, I think we do have a very talented and smart final 8. I thought about song choices while running on the treadmill yesterday, and here is what I have come up with. . . Keep in mind that "Inspirational/Life Anthem" songs is a very subjective theme.
Jason Castro - Big Yellow Taxi (Joni Mitchell)
Brooke White - Streets of Philadelphia (Bruce)/Hands (Jewel)
Syesha Mercado - Hero (Y'all know she is going to pick a Mariah song)/Greatest Love of All/One Moment in Time (Whitney)
Kristy Lee Cook - I Hope You Dance (Lee Ann Womack)/Amazing Grace (Surely not)
David Cook - One (U2)/ Everybody Hurts REM
David Archuletta - One (U2) - A poster on Idol Forums noted that this was the song he most wanted to sing on idol. . . . Or You Raise Me Up (Josh Groban)
Michael Johns - Don't Stop Believin (Journey)
Carly Smithson - Sisters Are Doin It For Themselves (Aretha/Annie)/Angel (Sarah M.)
** Someone on Idol Forums suggested that Carly sing "Angel" acapella. Interesting idea . . . front runner/eliminated . . . could go either way.
What do y'all think.
